Founder and CEO
For over two decades Vic Strecher (PhD, MPH) has been a leader and visionary in the fields of health and well-being, creating new solutions that operate at the intersection of the science of behavior change and advanced technology. A noted researcher and successful entrepreneur, Vic has cultivated a passion of connecting academic findings to practical applications that translate to meaningful outcomes. In 1998, Vic created Health Media pioneering Web-based “digital health coaching.” The company set a new benchmark for scalable, effective lifestyle and condition management program delivery in the employer and health plan wellness markets. Health Media was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 2008.
Vic is also a professor at the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health and Director for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship. His research has led to over 100 studies of digital health interventions, with over $45 million in NIH grant funded research.
Since January 2014, Vic has given keynote presentations about the role of purpose in life, energy, and willpower to over 1,500 employers, providing him the opportunity to not only respond to the growing interests of the market, but to also continue to help shape it. In late 2014, JOOL Health was launched as a major paradigm shift in how individuals engage in the pursuit of well-being while offering organizations a more insightful means to support positive behavior change.

Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer
Katie has an MBA and MSE from the University of Michigan along with extensive experience managing software development projects and technology organizations. Most recently Katie served for 10 years as the Chief Operating Officer at Soar Technology where she led all project and administrative functions. Previous positions include senior leadership positions in application development at Borders Group and in operational and project management at Vector Research.
Chief Technology Officer
Lisa has a PhD in engineering from Stanford University and extensive experience in the software industry. She has successfully led product innovation for a variety of mobile, web and desktop applications. Prior to joining JOOL Health, Lisa served as Vice President of Technology at Ideomed Inc., a mobile health company. At Ideomed she built and led the product development team and served as the company’s initial privacy and security officer for HIPAA compliance. Lisa held product management and product development leadership roles at MSC Software, Mechanical Dynamics and Engineering Animation and earlier in her career she was a Senior Scientist at Transom Technologies. She also spent time on the faculty at the University of Minnesota.
Chief Creative Officer
David spent 18 years as Creative Director at Enlighten, a digital advertising and technology company in Ann Arbor, Michigan. During his career, David has helped secure success for a diverse group of clients including HealthMedia, Johnson & Johnson, University of Michigan, Audi, The Disney Company, Ban, Bioré, The Nature Conservancy, DungBeetle.org, Reebok, Peterbilt, Rykodisc, Korbel, Monterey Bay Aquarium, illy caffe, Michigan Radio, discreet, Xerox, Hunter Douglas, and Autodesk. As Chief Creative Officer at JOOL Health, David is serving as co-lead on all product design and development activities. Other responsibilities include overall creative direction, leadership across all user engagement initiatives, and oversight for all brand development and expression.
Senior Vice President, Client Services
Angie Merkel is an executive leader with more than 20 years of experience successfully developing, mentoring, and growing customer-facing teams. Her professional qualifications include working with innovative start-up ventures as well as large corporations with a strong track record of customer satisfaction and results, including building infrastructure to support quality delivery of value. Prior to joining JOOL Health, Angie held the position of Sr. Vice President for Health Integrated where she led the client service, implementation, and sales and marketing teams. Previous positions include strategic leadership roles for ForeSee (Answers Corp.), Truven Analytics (an IBM company), Caredata.com, and Tenet Healthcare. Angie holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Pepperdine University.
Director of Sales
Steven brings to JOOL Health over 25 years of experience providing innovative, blue ocean solutions to the some of the world’s largest employers, health plans serving commercial and government populations, integrated delivery networks, and health systems. His experience includes Software as a Service (SaaS) health and wellness solutions from HealthMedia, Johnson & Johnson and several Fortune 100 companies.
In addition to Steven’s extensive sales experience with direct sales and channel/distribution partner sales, he has also successfully built and led national sales teams for multiple start-up companies, including successfully growing businesses culminating in acquisitions by multiple Fortune 100 companies.
Chief Energy Officer
Famed for leading numerous team members on brisk walks around the neighborhood, Uncle Lenny comes to JOOL Health with a wealth of dogged, paws-on experience. Known for an intense, almost compulsive interest in nutrition (his own), Uncle Lenny leads the JOOL team in both daily calories expended and power naps.
Vice President, Booz Allen Hamilton
Young Bang is a leader in Booz Allen Hamilton’s civil health business. He is a recognized expert in technology strategy, architecture and design, systems development and health information technology. He provides leadership support to the firm’s health clients, including the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Health and Human Services. He holds a B.S. degree in leadership and systems engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Managing Director, Harris Williams & Co.
Jeffery Bistrong founded and heads Harris Williams’ Technology, Media & Telecom Group. He has led mergers and acquisitions for software, SaaS, IT services, internet, digital media, telecommunications, and technology hardware companies, and in verticals including healthcare IT, financial technology, energy and power, transportation and logistics, and not for profit. He earned dual M.B.A. and M.A. Asian Studies degrees from the University of Michigan, studied Politics at the University of York and received a B.A. degree in Government from Colby College.
President, American College of Preventive Medicine
Robert Carr has extensive experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical and consumer products businesses. He is on the faculty at Georgetown University and was most recently Senior Vice President & Corporate Medical Director at GlaxoSmithKline. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami School of Medicine and his Masters of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency from the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Hygiene & Public Health.
